Concept & Functionality


Traditional pattern construction is based mainly on manual calculations and human experience.  It involves the drawing of 2D blocks of patterns, which are subsequently assembled to form the 3D shape of garment to fit the human body.  This approach has a number of inherent deficiencies:

1.    It requires enormous manual skills, the lack of which will produce ‘ill-fitting’ clothes;

2.    The lack of mathematical relationship among different parts of the pattern blocks makes pattern construction work impossible to be automated.  Any modification in shape or style will require the whole work to be redone, resulting in prolonged product development time.

TPC employs a completely different approach by starting with a series of human body data obtained from a 3D body scanner (see Figure 1) and employing advanced computer graphic applications to smoothen the 3D body image into a framework consisting of regular mesh.  The treated image (called “Virtual Mannequin”) can be deformed into whatever shapes based on different human body profiles obtained from scanning. Through a process of human body structural definition, a set of reference lines is obtained as the key parameters for the construction of garment patterns based on the TPC 3D pattern concept method (see Figure 2). 3D relational-geometry is used to automatically convert 3D pattern constructions into 2D pattern blocks.  The pattern blocks thus created are akin to those stripped off from a 3D garment form, making the attainment of “fit” much easier.

Following is the "Intelligent" features of TPC approach :

1. TPC Automatic Pattern Generation System (APGS) APGS software provides a complete 3D integrated solution, inclusive of garment fit and size grading. Users can develop silhouettes and styles in the 3D environment according to their preference. The software also generates a set of 2D patterns, which can be exported in real time from the 3D garment structure.

2. TPC Parametric Pattern Generator (PPG) TPC is launched a newly developed 3D digital pattern design solution “Parametric Pattern Generator” (PPG) compatible with the world’s most popular garment software and hardware systems. “PPG” is an innovative software product designed through the process of creative thinking with scientific approach and practical application.  With its industrial application, PPG creates the digital garment solution to today’s apparel industry. 3. TPC 3D Interactive Software advance computer graphics are employed to incorporate the “third” dimension in the pattern construction process, creating a truly 3D working environment for pattern designers. 3D relational-geometry is used to automatically convert 3D patterns construction into 2D master slopers. The master slopers thus created are akin to those stripped off from a 3D garment form, making the attainment of “best fit”. Without adding extra hardware, the System facilitates the conversion of data to 2D for real manufacturing scenario. (see Figure 4)

4. TPC Lingerie Software - The software "Maya" of Alias Wavefront is a 3D platform employed to create the new Software, which allows TPC to explore and develop 3D direct garment creation in a virtual environment. The advantage of 3D pattern design is an innovative approach for users to have the possibility to treat the garment fit problem on real time. With the 3D visualization users can create the 3D garment structure on virtual mannequin, they can manipulate simultaneously the volume and silhouette for various garment structures. 


For the development of lingerie, which considered being the most fitted garment, in the reality, people are so difficult to define manually the different characteristic of the bust, such as the body sizes, cup sizes, under bust and their shapes.  The virtual model can provide better observation on the morphological evolution in a virtual space, such as the transformation of   posture and attitude, the evolution of size and cup etc. Once the virtual model has been selected, with the feature base design, user can create the 3D garment directly on the designed virtual body (see Figures 5 & 6).
